Radical Candor - How to Give Feedback
Requires strong emotional discipline
1. Start by soliciting
2. Give praise (gratitude and generosity)
3. Give helpful criticism. Be humble (you may be wrong.)
4. Offer praise and criticism
5. Candor is an opening for a dialog
6. Results and next steps
Three key characteristics:
Praise in public, criticize in private
Don’t criticize their personality, focus on outcomes
It’s a dialog; get feedback
Consider communication on an emotional
and rational plane. Be sensitive to the emotional plane (your own and the other person.) Don’t try to react to the emotions of others (stay calm, and show you care personally.) If you get the brush-off, then challenge even more directly. Clear is kind.
